Fort Portal is one of the most lovely towns in Uganda. Located in the western region of Uganda, Fort Portal is the main town of the Kabarole District. The seat of the Toro kingdom is found within this town in Kabarole district.

Fort Portal is located about 180km west of Kampala.
Fort Portal is one of the touristic towns in Uganda often visited by tourists. There are lots of attractions within the area and these include

- The Karambi Royal Tombs
- Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru
- Crater Lakes
Health
The town is a home to three hospitals that is;
- Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, the public hospital administered by the Uganda Ministry of Health being the largest in the town.
- The is Holy Family Virika Hospital
- The Kabarole Missionary Hospital, a community hospital administered by the church of Uganda being founded by John Edward Church of the Church Mission society.
Education
The town is composed of two institutions of higher learning.
The main campus of Mountains of the Moon University, a private university being located in the center of the town.
There is also the main campus of Uganda Pentecostal University, a private University affiliated with the Pentecostal Movement.
A prospective Catholic priest’s school known as St. Mary’s Minor Seminary is also found in Fort Portal.
